the light in you is all I see

oh hi, i'm amy mcmullen,

woman greeting you with a sunset behind

 a picture maker and

story-shaker

i help people tell their truest stories

and rewrite the ones that hinder them.

my work in the world is storywork.

i believe knowing each other’s stories is how we make sense of each other, how we find empathy- we can always find some piece of ourselves in a stranger- something that connects us, lest we forget we are knitted together.

in my portraiture work, i aim to see a little extra into who you are or what you’re trying to say as we shoot; i come with curiosity, a dorky streak that keeps things light, and a tenacious desire to reflect back to you how dope you are. to tell your story with both reverence and joy.

in my facilitation work, i lead co-working groups, workshops and soon again, 3-day retreats for folks looking to un-learn old narratives we were told about ourselves and bought into for too long, and reflect back your more essential self. we RE-story, thank you very much. we don't have to believe what we’re told about ourselves.

however we work together, i’m so honored to be your mirror.

The longer I live, the more deeply I learn that love — whether we call it friendship or family or romance — is the work of mirroring and magnifying each other’s light. Gentle work. Steadfast work. Life-saving work in those moments when life and shame and sorrow occlude our own light from our view, but there is still a clear-eyed loving person to beam it back. In our best moments, we are that person for another.

-James Baldwin

“i wish i could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being.”

— hafiz

“i am doing the something i learned early to do, i am paying attention to small beauties, whatever i have, as if it were our duty to find things to love, to bind ourselves to this world.”
